The Makura volcano is located about 25 km from the southern coasts of Epi Island.

Only the north (Emae Island) and southern (Masato Island) ramparts remain after a major eruption in ancient times, about 10,000 years ago.

The island of Makura corresponds to the peak of the central cone. The summit is Maunga Lasi on the island of Emae at 644 m altitude.
