Ureparapara :

The island of Ureparapara is an extinct stratovolcano whose summit culminates at 764 m part of the Banks Torba Islands.

The island has an unusual shape with steep promontories at the entrance to a spectacular 3 km long port, formed by a crater.

The volcano was built through successive pyroclastic eruptions and streams of lava.

Its last eruption dates back 476,000 years.

During our treks, in November 2017, we went to this island of Ureparapara and climbed to one of the peaks allowing us to have this exceptional view of the bay.

We also spent a few nights with the villagers sharing some kava shell.
